With generosity from the ASHRAE Life Members Club, the Student Activities Committee is offering up to five $1,000 USD travel grants to help subsidize students to travel to the Winter Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada in February 2022.


Application:

Applications are due by September 30, 2021 and will require:

  • Total budget for the trip.  If the cost exceeds $1000, applicants should identify how the additional funding will be achieved (by applicant, student branch, local chapter, or other funding source).
  • ASHRAE membership number (if you have one).
  • List of any past involvement with ASHRAE at the chapter or student branch level.

Background Information:

These grants will help Chapters and Regions send student members to the Winter Conference and Student Program.

 The recipients of the travel grant will be exposed to many activities at the Winter Conference:

  • Student Activities Committee meetings (non-executive session)
  • The Student Program
  • Seminars
  • AHR Trade Show
  • Technical Committees
  • Governance

Preference will be given to ASHRAE student members who have promoted ASHRAE and demonstrated leadership skills at the university level, student branch level, or chapter level. 

Successful applicants will be notified by the Student Activities committee by November 15th.  The Student Activities Chair will appoint a liaison from the committee to assist the applicant in selecting activities to participate in at the Winter Conference.  The liaison will meet the student upon arrival to review the agenda, prepare a schedule based on the applicant’s interests, and provide orientation. 

The following is an example schedule.

Friday

Travel day / arrive at Winter Conference hotel

Saturday

8 am – 12 noon   Attend Student Activities meetings

1 pm – 4 pm        Take part in Student Program

Sunday

All day Take part in Student Evening
Attend the student tour (if applicable)

Monday

Concurrent sessions. Liaison to help the recipients select the events and become familiar with the location.

  • Educational: technical sessions of interest
  • Technology: TC committee meeting (sit in for part of meeting)
  • Governance: Participate in ASHRAE Leadership Meetings
  • Free time to explore the conference and bookstore
  • Evening: free time (YEA Hospitality, President’s speech)

Tuesday

Concurrent sessions. Liaison to help the recipients select the events and become familiar with the location.

  • Educational: technical sessions of interest
  • Technology: TC committee meeting (sit in for part of meeting)
  • Governance: Participate in ASHRAE Leadership Meetings
  • Practical: Visit the AHR expo. Liaison will help identify booths of interest to go visit.
  • Literature: Free time to explore the conference and bookstore
  • Evening: free time

Wednesday

Free to check out of hotel

Concurrent sessions (until noon). Liaison to help the recipients select the events and become familiar with the location.

  • Educational: technical sessions of interest
  • Technology: TC committee meeting (sit in for part of meeting)
  • Governance: Participate in ASHRAE Leadership Meetings
  • Practical: Visit the AHR expo. Liaison will help identify booths of interest to go visit.
  • Literature: Free time to explore the conference and bookstore
  • Depart for home
